Ural » 380-862

Ural Automobile Plant started designing of active trailers since the beginning of the 1960s, along with the development of the first generation of army AWD trucks Ural-375. In 1962, a first tractor with active trailer (10x10) combination was built based on Ural-375C tractor prototype with a 180 hp gasoline engine. Mass production started in 1965.

This combination included a special tractor Ural-380 with a transfer case, gear and cardan drive of a 10-ton active semi-trailer chassis "Ural-862" with four wheels. The semi-trailer had an open welded frame with length of 12 m and width of 982 mm. It had the same axles and suspension as the Ural-375 tractor. Electrical and tire inflation systems were also unified with the base truck. The first samples of Ural-862 semi-trailers got tented flatbed platforms, and additional 2.5-meter long open flatbed near fifth wheel. According to the traditional scheme of designation the new combination got name Ural-380-862.

Curb weight of "Ural-380-862" was 14.7 tonnes, GCVW - 25.3 tonnes. Maximum speed of fully loaded combination was 67 kph. The range was 583 km
