Nexter Systems » Titus
On the opened on September 10, 2013 in London, an international defense exhibition DSEI 2013 the French company Nexter Systems introduced a new armored vehicle TITUS 6x6 (Tactical Infantry Transport and Utility System). TITUS is a kind of hybrid of multiaxle wheeled armored vehicle with a MRAP vehicle. This "hybridization" helps to minimize the main drawback of MRAP vehicles - their limited tactical mobility that make "normal" MRAP machines suitable for the movement on quality roads only. TITUS uses armored vehicle chassis Tatra 6x6, with evenly spaced along the length of the body axes. There are also some components from the 2010 Nexter XP2 armored vehicle in the chassis.
The base version of TITUS has a curb weight of 17 tonnes, but in an armored combat vehicle weight is 23 tonnes. The capacity is up to 4 tonnes and the GWV is up to 27 tonnes. The vehicle has a length of 7.55 m, width 2.55 m and height 2.73 m. It has armor according to the NATO standard STANAG 4569 Level 2, but with the installation of additional modules armor can be enhanced up to Level 4. Installation of a special set of PG Guard to protect against RPGs is also available. Anti-mine protection is declared at levels STANAG 4569 Level 4a and Level 4b, while the patented design developed by Nexter Enclosure SAFEPRO supposedly ensures the survival of personnel in the car at blasting landmine weighing up to 150 kg. The crew is three people, and the capacity - up to ten infantrymen. The volume of troop compartment is 14 cubic meters. The modular design allows to create vehicles for different purposes.
6-cylinder Cummins diesel engine rated at 440 hp (550 hp engine is also available) and Allison automatic transmission provide vehicle maximum speed on the highway up to 110 km/h. Range is up to 700 km. The first prototype TITUS is equipped with remotely controlled weapon station Nexter ARX20 with a 20-mm automatic gun and 7.62-mm machine gun. In addition it has two 7.62-mm machine guns on the roof.
