In 1995, in addition to delivery model 45 was added heavier model 55 with gross weight of 11-15 tonnes. DAF 55 is equipped with a similar cabin from model 45 and can be used in regional hauls. Unlike many European counterparts in this class which have 4-cylinder engines, all DAF models 45/55 are equipped with 6-cylinder Cummins engines with a working volume of 5.9 liters and power range 132-235 hp. Manual 5- and 6-speed transmissions ZF provide good dynamic quality of vehicles and allow to use these trucks for region or urban hauls. The most powerful models of series 55 can tow a trailer with cross weight up to 28 tonnes.
