At the Transport 2011 in Norway, Scania has showed the innovative solutions on the Scania R 730 8x8 heavy-haulage tractor. Powered by the 730 hp Scania V8, the vehicle has been purpose-built for heavy-haulage peace-keeping duties. It is an 8x8 tractor equipped with a high-mounted Scania CrewCab with space for two drivers and seating or resting facilities for an additional 4-6 persons. The choice of engine output and overall vehicle performance are guided by the potential need to quickly withdraw from a hazardous area without the heavy-haulage vehicles slowing down other units. The vehicle features fully automated Scania Opticruise automated gearchanging with overdrive, 12 road-going ratios and twin crawler gears. The four axles are all equipped with hub reduction. The gross vehicle weight is 32 tonnes and the maximum gross train weight 120 tonnes.
