(1986 - 1994)

In 1986, Kersey Manufacturing unveiled the Century 2000 redesigned model. The Century 2000 sported a new full-width cab with a huge windshield. Head and parking lights were enclosed in massive rectangular bezels. The thoroughly redesigned Century 2000 retained the unmistakable American LaFrance DNA. Powered by a 350 horsepower Detroit Diesel with ALF Twinflow pump, the Century 2000 had a stainless-steel cab and modular body construction. The first Century 2000 pumpers were delivered to fire departments before the end of 1986.

These were built in Bluefield, Virginia. I live just a few minutes from the former American LaFrance plant, and I've become quite interested in the plant's history. There was the Century 2000, the Pioneer 90, the Pacemaker, and also a few of the original Century were built as well. There were a total of 151 built in Bluefield from `1986 to 1994. One thing that bugs me is no one has done any of the Bluefield era models as a diecast replica.

Bluefield, Virginia Fire Dept. uses a Pacemaker (which was the last one built). The Hinton, WV unit shown is still in service.
