American LaFrance » C.T.C.
For most of their long history, American LaFrance have specialised in the manufacture of fire engines, but there have been brief periods of commercial trucks, and the latest began in 1981 when the company introduced two chassis, a 4x2 and a 6x4. They are intended primarily for refuse collection, althogh their low-entry cabs would make them very suitable for urban delivery work. The standard engine is a Caterpillar 3208 V8 diesel, 10,375 cc, 185 bhp. But two models of Cummins and three of Detroit are available as options. Similarly the standard transmission is an Allison MT653 automatic, but manual gearboxes by Fuller or Spicer can be had as well. Right-hand steering is another option, for easy of driving close to the kerb. No fewer than eight wheelbase lenghs are offered on the 4x2 chassis, and six on the 6x4. The standard body is an E-Z Pak.
