MAZ-4381 Kornet
MAZ-4381S0 Kornet is a family of medium-duty 4×2 trucks from the Minsk Automobile Plant, built as flatbeds, curtain-sided and box trucks and as a chassis for urban and regional distribution. The same model is also listed under the name Zubrenok, and the grille of the trucks carries a “Kornet” badge. The family has a three-seat cab over the engine and a 12-tonne class gross weight.
The standard flatbed, MAZ-4381S0-528-020, has a 4,200 mm (165 in) wheelbase and measures 8,130 mm (320 in) in length, 2,550 mm (100 in) in width and 3,000 mm (118 in) in height. Its platform is 6,150 × 2,480 mm (242 × 98 in). Gross vehicle weight is 12,500 kg (27,558 lb), payload 6,450 kg (14,220 lb) and top speed 85 km/h (53 mph).
The basic 4381S0 engine is the YaMZ-53423.10 inline-four turbodiesel (Euro 5) with EGR and no urea system, rated at 125 kW (170 hp) at 2,300 rpm with 670 Nm (494 lb-ft) between 1,200 and 1,600 rpm. The gearbox is a six-speed manual Fast Gear 6J70T (a ZF 6S800 is also listed), and the fuel tank holds 200 L (53 US gal). The factory datasheet for the long version names the engine YaMZ-53445 (4.433 L, 270 cu in, 124.2 kW / 169 hp, 662 Nm / 488 lb-ft). A short chassis, MAZ-4381C0-540-001, has a 3,400 mm (134 in) wheelbase, a 7,450 kg (16,424 lb) payload and a 130 L tank, and is available with a PTO.

The range has other power options. A gas version, 4381S4, uses the YaMZ-53414.10 (170 hp), and the 438121 uses a Weichai WP4.1NQ engine rated at 185 or 190 hp, depending on the document (the super-long truck is also offered with the 190 hp WP4.1NQ190E50). Versions with the Minsk Motor Plant D-245 diesel (4381P2, 4381N2) and with Cummins engines (4381W1, W2, Y1) are also listed. Gearboxes from other makers can be fitted, which changes the specification. Electric variants are designated 4381E0 and 4381EE.
The super-long Kornet, MAZ-4381S0-2522-025, was first shown at the Komtrans exhibition in Moscow in autumn 2019 and was designed primarily with the Russian market in mind. Serial production was reported in mid-2020, when the first trucks left the main assembly line for customers.
Its wheelbase is 1,000 mm (39 in) longer than the standard truck’s, at 5,200 mm (205 in), and it carries a new curtain-sided platform without fixed side boards, 7,750 mm (305 in) long. The interior height of 3,000 mm (118 in) is the highest of any curtain-sided MAZ truck, and the body is 2,480 mm (98 in) wide. This gives 57.7 m³ (2,038 cu ft) of volume and room for 19 Euro pallets (1,200 × 800 mm / 47 × 31 in). The standard Kornet, for example the MAZ-4381C0-2520-060, has a 6,150 × 2,480 × 2,550 mm (242 × 98 × 100 in) body of 38.9 m³ (1,374 cu ft).
For comparison, the 6×2 long-haul MAZ-6310E9 has a 7,750 × 2,480 × 2,900 mm (305 × 98 × 114 in) body of 55.7 m³ (1,967 cu ft), about 2 m³ less than the new Kornet. The 6×4 regional MAZ-6312C9 has a 7,750 × 2,480 × 2,450 mm (305 × 98 × 96 in) body of 47.09 m³ (1,663 cu ft). Loading height is 940 mm (37 in), against 1,300 mm (51 in) on the standard Kornet or Zubrenok.

The super-long truck remains a medium-duty vehicle. It weighs 6,700 kg (14,771 lb) empty, and its gross weight is 11,990 kg (26,433 lb) according to the datasheet, with 12,000 kg quoted in press material. Payload is 5,290 kg (11,662 lb), also quoted as 5,300 kg. Overall length is up to 9,745 mm (384 in) and height up to 4,000 mm (157 in). Being rated at 12 t, it falls below the weight threshold of the Russian Platon road toll, which was part of the reasoning behind the design. It is suited to bulky, light cargo rather than heavy long-haul loads.
The long truck has air suspension at the rear (two bellows) and a combined air-spring/leaf-spring front axle, both with anti-roll bars. It uses two 130 L (34 US gal) fuel tanks and is quoted at about 1,000 km (621 miles) range. The quoted consumption is 16.5 L/100 km (14.3 mpg US) at 60 km/h and 23.9 L/100 km (9.8 mpg US) at 80 km/h. The 6J70T gearbox is paired with a 4.62 axle ratio and differential lock. Brakes are two-circuit pneumatic with Wabco disc brakes and ABS, with traction and stability control and 245/70R19.5 tyres.
The three-seat cab has a fold-down berth. Standard equipment includes a digital tachograph, electronic stability control, an independent liquid heater, fog lamps, a cab fairing and wheel chocks. Optional equipment includes air conditioning, an independent air heater, seat armrests, a monitoring system, a sun visor, an emergency-call unit (UVEOS), central locking, power windows and mirrors and wheel splash guards. Cruise control and a radio are listed as standard in the factory datasheet and as options in other descriptions.
