Babcock & Wilcox » 4 Toneladas / 5-5.5 Toneladas
In the 1950s, Babcock & Wilcox made a model range of trucks and chassis with a payload of 4, 5 and 5.5 tonnes. They were fitted with engines made under the license of Burmesister & Wain and Sulzer companies. These were the marine engines that were not good for road machines. But they were very simple.
Difficult of using and repairing these engines led to replacing them by some drivers to Perkins or Barreiros. The cabin was produced by Societat Anònima Bosuga de Montcada i Reixac. This coach company made cabins for other Spanish truck manufacturers — Pegaso, Motor Ibérica SA-Ebro, Aeronautica Industrial SA-Avia.
Babcock & Wilcox trucks were available as a chassis and chassis with cabin versions. Several aftermarket companies installed own cabins. There were Terradas de Riudarenes, Farina, Seida, etc. There were also version with Studebaker cabins. Antifyre S.A. produced fire engines based on the Babcock & Wilcox chassis.
The factory guarantee was 50 thousand kilometers. In the late 1950s — early 1960s, owners of Babcock & Wilcox was hurry to sell all produced chassis. They understood that Babcock & Wilcox trucks with old marine engines had no chance in competition with modern Ebro B45.
