Mack » Anthem
Mack Trucks unveiled a new long distance tractor for their US homemarket called Anthem in 2017. The new flagship model came to replace the Titan which was produced since 2007. According to Mack the new Anthem is ‘designed for drivers’. The new Anthem can be ordered with various engine and transmission options. Available are 11 (MP7) and 13 litre (MP8) engines, the most powerful of them, a thirteen litre is available with turbocompound (MP8-TC). The power range is 325-505 hp.
Mack uses the turbocompound system to increase torque and to make the engine turn at lower speed while maintaining a very American top speed of 63 mph. Actually, according to Mack, the engine can rev as low as 900 rpm and still deliver maximum power and efficiency. Mack also offers three manual transmissions, like the well-known Fuller and also an Allison automatic. Mack is keen to point out that the Anthem will be like 11 percent more fuel efficient as the previous models, which we think is quite a lot.
Offered as a day cab, 48-inch sleeper and 70-inch sleeper, the Class 8 truck is roomier than the model it replaces. The dashboard looks American modern and the sporty steering wheel, featuring all sorts of functions looks cool. The 12-speed automatic transmission is operated via knobs on the dashboard. There are such systems as radar and camera-based collision mitigation and lane-departure warning systems. It will also be fitted with both adaptive cruise control and predictive cruise control, which can memorize a route and make adjustments for hills that can reduce fuel consumption by a further one percent. 7" touchscreen interfaces with smart steering wheel buttons and manages tools like Sirius XM, Weather Band, TomTom truck navigation, Apple CarPlay and optional back-up camera.
The new model features a sleek body that incorporates a bold grille and still has a place for the company’s signature bulldog mascot hood ornament. Mack says the aerodynamic improvements are good for a three percent fuel saving. The new hood consisted of 3 pieces. They can be ordered as separate replacement parts for improved serviceability and lower repair costs. LED headlights are 66% brighter, last longer, use less energy and provide better visibility.
