MAZ » 532
In spring 1957, MAZ presented an original prototype of logging truck MAZ-532. Its development started one year earlier - in June 1956. It had similar design to MAZ-528 tractor, but the engine (the same 165 hp YAZ-206 diesel) was moved forward. Main transmission units and running gear, including 32-inch wheels was borrowed from MAZ-525. The transmission included 5-speed gearbox and 2-speed transfer gearbox with a symmetrical center differential to transfer torque to planetary hub reductions.
The first sample had a towing and skidding equipment behind the cab to work with a two-axle logging trailer. GCVW was up to 36 tonnes, and it could transport up to 20 cubic meters of wood. The tractor had a wheelbase of 3000 mm, overall dimensions - 6690x3220x2800 mm, curb weight - 12,625 kg and a top speed on a highway - 45 kph, on gravel roads - 15 - 20 kph. Another version of MAZ-532 was designed for military purposes. It was a medium artillery tractor with a metal cargo platform with a canvas or a special chassis for heavy military equipment. These variants were built and passed factory tests, but future developments on this project was stopped.
