Albion » Chieftain / Clydesdale / Reiver with G-range cab

From 1972 until 1980 Chieftains, Clydesdale and Reivers were built as Leylands using the G-range cab manufactured at Bathgate. The G-range nomenclature was relatively straight forward (for example, Clydesdale E2CD4016N); E stood for export models with left hand drive, 2 meant a radical change in the basic design, CD denoted model name, 40 for naturally aspirated engine, 16 referred to GVW, and N for normal wheelbase. Some long established Albion operators like Doune Motors of Perthshire did not wish to see their Scotstoun built trucks badged as Leylands and went to some trouble to remove the Leyland names and rebadge them as Albions. So some of the G-range cabbed trucks probably became the last built trucks to receive the Albion name.
