Mercedes-Benz » L4500S / A

Heavy duty military range was represented by 4.7-ton trucks L4500S (4x2, 1939-44, military version of civilian model) and L4500A (4x4, 1941-44). The truck were equipped with 6 cylinder diesel engine with an output of 112 hp. Self-propelled 37- and 50-mm artillery guns were produced on the chassis of the L4500A. In 1939 wooden cabins were installed on the trucks, but later it has been replaced by a modern metal cab.

I believe that the wooden / cardboard cabs ("Einheits") were in fact used later in the war as a substitute for the all metal cab, in order to save materials, rather than predating the metal version.
